Did you say: Pistachio peel essential oil?
All over the world, pistachio is eaten for its delicious taste, but did you know that it is surrounded on the tree by a fresh skin that is often considered waste? In Rafsanjan in southern Iran, a region famous for its pistachio trees, we saw an opportunity in this underexploited resource.
With a local producer, we have implemented an innovative upcycling process. After extensive research, he developed a steam distillation method to extract a unique essential oil from pistachio skin. Going further, he created a second version: before distillation, the pistachio skins are smoked with pistachio wood, giving an essential oil with even more complex and deep aromas.
This project transforms waste into a valuable resource, illustrating our commitment to sustainability and innovation, while promoting nature’s treasures.
